Women's World Cup: Two Australian cricketers stalked, one molested in Indore; accused arrested

Two Australian women cricketers participating in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in Indore , Madhya Pradesh , were stalked by a man on a motorcycle who allegedly molested one of them near Khajrana Road on Thursday morning, leading to his arrest on Friday.

The incident occurred when the cricketers were walking from their hotel to a nearby café. A man on a motorcycle followed them and inappropriately touched one of the players before fleeing the scene.

The players immediately reported the incident to their team security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local security liaison officers to send a vehicle for assistance.


Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met with the players and recorded their statements. A first information report (FIR) was registered at the MIG police station under sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for use of criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty and stalking .


The suspect was identified as Akil Khan after a bystander noted his motorcycle number. Police arrested him the following day.

"Khan has prior criminal cases registered against him, and an investigation is on in the case," said Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, which occurred during the ongoing Women's Cricket World Cup tournament.
