A shooting at the MultiCare Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma left a man dead and a woman injured Wednesday evening, police investigating the matter said.
According to Tacoma police, reports of a shooting at 1900 South Union Street were received shortly after 7 pm Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot injuries.
Officials have verified that a male died from gunshot wounds, while a female victim sustained injuries but remains stable.
Tacoma police reports indicate that the assailant and the male victim engaged in a confrontation outside the medical facility, after which the assailant pursued him into the emergency department's reception area where shots were fired.
At 8 pm, Tacoma authorities confirmed no arrests had been made in connection with the incident but assured the public that this was not an active shooter incident.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not disclosed additional information about the incident or the victims' identities.
The hospital issued this statement several hours after the event: "MultiCare Allenmore Hospital is currently on restricted access due to an incident in the Emergency Department. The ED is open for walk-in patients. Restricted access doesn't allow for any visitors at this time. Tacoma Police are on-site investigating the incident. One person died as a result of this incident. All MultiCare staff are safe and unharmed. We will provide more information as it becomes available."
