Marvel Rivals Season 4 release date, server downtime schedule, PS4 port and Battle Pass

Marvel Rivals Season 4 is about to begin on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. In fact, the new season will also be playable on PS4, following the launch of the free-to-play game for the last-gen PlayStation on September 12.

September 12 is also when Marvel Rivals Season 4 will make its debut on consoles and PC. The new season will begin following a period of server downtime, which kicks off at 10am BST in the UK.

According to Marvel Rivals developer NetEease, server maintenance will run for 2-3 hours, which means we should be able to resume playing between midday and 1pm BST.

The news was announced by NetEase on X, alongside a preview about what to expect from update 4.0.

"Check out what Season 4.0 has for you with our official roadmap!" reads a Marvel Rivals tweet. "Kick off the brand new season with divine royalty as Angela descends upon the battlefield on September 12th!

"Maintenance will begin on Sep 12, 9 AM UTC, and is expected to take approximately 2-3 hours.

"Please note that servers will be offline during this period, and the game will be inaccessible.

"Server return times may vary based on progress. Stay tuned for updates as we'll announce when they're back up on X! New heroes, arcade modes, costumes, maps, and SO MUCH MORE!"

As you can see from the video below, the Battle Pass is titled Fruit of Immortality. It features ten new sets of Hero costumes, as well as the usual array of emotes, nameplates and sprays.

Likewise, the new season adds Angela as a playable character. Angela can lunge at enemies with spear in hand, strike opponents with twin axes and create a "Divine Judgement" zone, which grants enhanced speed and healing for players nearby.

• New Rank Settlement Rewards: Reach Gold for the divine Angela - Siriana's Silver costume. Earn all-new Nameplate Frames at Diamond and Platinum, plus rock fresh Crests of Honor for Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, and the illustrious Top 500.

Arcade Mode Hub

• Arcade mode has leveled up!

• Now with more choices available:

- New - Conquest (Annihilation)

- Score 1 point per enemy defeated; first to 50 points wins.

- Map: Tokyo 2099: Ninomaru

New - Free Fight

- Based on Quick Match (Domination, Convergence, Convoy) rules, but no restrictions on duplicate heroes; each team can ban 2 heroes (same ban rules as Competitive).

- Map Pool: Same as Quick Match (except Throne of Knull). Upon matchmaking, a map is randomly selected.

Returning - Clone Rumble

- Gameplay experience has been streamlined: Choose from 2 heroes randomly selected by the system. The side that reaches 100% capture progress on the current map wins. (Victory is decided on a single map.)

Arcade Matchmaking

• Pick 1-6 modes to queue for.

• Team up with any number of friends.

- Can gain Hero Proficiency in Arcade, but has daily caps.

New Systems

• Emoji Wheel Rework: Added a new list format to equip more emojis, and you can now send them in more scenarios!

• Costume Rotation: Randomise your hero's look from multiple selected unlocked costumes.

• Custom Ability VFX Visibility: Choose to see (or hide) others' custom Ultimate Ability effects.

• Disconnect Pause: In Custom Game - Tournament Room, hosts can enable auto-pause if a player disconnects.

Fixes and Optimisations

All Platforms

• Improved pre-match hero selection wheel; added a "Strike Squad" favorites bar for quick picks.

Maps and Modes

• Arakko: Slightly increased mission vehicle speed for Attacking Side in section 1 (sections 2 and 3 remain unchanged).
