President Donald Trump was dealt a major blow as he addressed his pal-turned-enemy, Elon Musk's new political move. Just moments before the US leader left Texas for Washington, D.C., CNN interrupted its usual broadcasting to go live to his location as he took questions from the press.
After signing a disaster declaration for Texas' Kerr County, which was severely impacted by a flood that has killed at least 71 individuals, Trump was asked to share his thoughts about Elon Musk starting a third party, to which he brutally responded: "I think it's ridiculous to start a third party. We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party, the Democrats have lost their way, but it's always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to the confusion."
The US leader continued: "It really seems to have been developed for two parties; third parties have never worked. So, he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous."
The clip, which was reposted on X, formerly Twitter, summarised his quotes and then branded President "scared," amid Musk potentially posing as a new threat in the political polls.
This comes after the SpaceX founder threatened in the lead-up to the vote on Trump's controversial budget Bill that he would create a party if it passed a final vote, which he would then use to challenge all those who voted in favour.
Musk then took to X to announce the formation of the America Party, which he claimed would offer an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties.
The tech billionaire declared: "By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!
"When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom."
Musk, who once served as Trump's top adviser, sparked their public fall-out after they clashed over US president's proposed legislation, dubbed a "big, beautiful bill", which would deliver sweeping tax cuts for the wealthy, reduce spending on welfare programmes like Medicaid, and scale back incentives for electric vehicle buyers.
The Tesla tycoon, whose businesses are closely tied to the electric vehicle industry, lashed out at Republican senators who supported the bill. He posted "Liar" on X and threatened to plaster their faces on posters, accusing them of voting to increase America's debt by $5 trillion and adding: "I will do everything in my power to remove them from office."
Sealing the end of their friendship, Trump threatened to strip federal subsidies from Musk's companies and even floated the idea of deporting the billionaire entrepreneur to his birthplace of Pretoria, South Africa.
