Melania Trump dubbed 'rude' for 'ignoring' Queen Camilla during state visit

First Lady Melania Trump has been criticised for allegedly "ignoring" Queen Camilla during the state visit, after concerns were raised about her choice of dress. As she attended the state banquet, all eyes where on Melania's outfit.

She opted for a canary yellow off-the-shoulder dress by Caroline Herrera, which she paired with nude pumps and a pair of emerald earrings; however, while some deemed the look to be "Inappropriate", others were left wondering if her belt was pink or purple, with the question causing a stir online. Now the First Lady has become a talking point again, as a clip has gone viralwhere people claim she "ignored" Queen Camilla at the state banquet.

In the clip, shared on TikTok, it was suggested Melania "literally ignored" the Queen as they engaged at the prestigious event, and a lighthearted song was included to poke fun at the moment. The Queen is spotted saying something to Melania, but she is looking away from her and appears to be talking to Prince William instead. It comes after it was reported Princess Kate was given a "secret mission" with Melania.

Since it was shared, the video has been viewed over 200,000 times and people were quick to share their views. While many thought it didn't look good, others jumped to defend the First Lady.

One person said: "She is the Queen Consort who is the host. That's rude of her." Another added: "She has no class and is dressed so inappropriately."

A third replied: "Poor Camilla, she's talking to herself." Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Melania - not professional."

However, some people had sympathy for Melania and noted, in her defence, she was speaking to another person at the time. Someone else wrote: "She wasn't ignoring Queen Camilla, she was engaged in a conversation with somebody else.

"Just because Camilla is Queen doesn't mean etiquette flies out of the window." Another said: "People are so mean. It's not ignoring. Melania and Queen Camilla are just talking to another person who is sitting next to Melania."

One more remarked: "Melania was not ignoring Queen Camilla. She was talking to Prince William."

On Wednesday (September 17), Donald Trump was treated like royalty as he and his wife, Melania, dined at Windsor Castle. However, one talking point for critics was the outfits worn by guests.

Many were quick to comment on the daring style of Melania’s dress, which bared her shoulders. This contrasted to Kate Middleton’s Phillipa Lepley full-length hand-embroidered gold lace evening coat worn over a silk crepe gown.

Camilla wore a floor length royal blue Fiona Clare gown, a sapphire and diamond tiara and a diamond necklace. The First Lady, Princess of Wales and Queen Camilla all wore floor-sweeping dresses, but Melania’s was deemed to be "inappropriate" because it was off-the-shoulder and showed a little skin.

Women in the Royal Family typically wear modest, conservative clothing to formal events, like state banquets. Fashion etiquette expert, Lucy Hulme, who featured on The Royal Family Channel on YouTube in November 2021, shared that guests are expected to follow dress code rules when meeting a member of the Royal Family.

Speaking to The Independent, Hume pointed to the yearly Royal Ascot as an example, where the dress code for the primary royal enclosure requires that women’s attire for both royals and guests must "come below the knee" and have covered shoulders.

The Royal Family shared an image on Instagram showing Queen Camilla, King Charles, Donald Trump and the First Lady standing in a row for a photo during the glittering occasion. While some people thought Melania looked "amazing," others were quick to point out a potential error.

Talking about Melania’s outfit, one commenter said: "The belt is just…nuh-uh. I may be mistaken but isn’t it inappropriate protocol to wear off the shoulder to such a function?"
