Darragh Ennis has dubbed The Chase star Mark Labbett “the worst loser ever” after the 60-year-old “walked off” set when he failed to win a show. Darragh, 44, joined the cast of The Chase in 2020.
He stars alongside the likes of Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace, and Paul Sinha as one of the formidable Chasers. The show sees a team of four contestants attempting to beat the Chasers and walk home with a cash prize.
Since the show’s inception in 2009, 533 teams have successfully beat the Chasers and walked away with the money. On the Podcast Dempsey’s Dozen, host Ian Dempsey recalled a recent episode where Mark stormed off after losing in the dying seconds.

It prompted Darragh to reveal that The Beast hates” to lose. He explained: “We do take it seriously. Mark is, and he would not mind me saying this, the worst loser in the world.
“He hates it, he genuinely hates it, that is not an act. He might pantomime it up a little but he is genuinely mad and he is really angry, he’s a sore loser, he kicks off and then five minutes later he’s fine.

“He does not like losing. When we’re doing Beat the Chasers we have to tell him, ‘Mark, stop buzzing in so early’, because if he hasn’t answered a question in a while he wants to get in there.”
During his stint on the show, Mark has been known for his fiery on-set antics. In 2020 he was reportedly spotted punching a wall as he stormed off set after host Bradley Walsh addressed a number of slip-ups that saw two contestants winning £30,000.
Having watched the dramatic exit, Bradley quipped: “Oops, I think he’s upset,” before going on to congratulate the winners.
Turning back to speak with Mark, who had not reappeared, the host added: “Wow, he is furious. For those of you who think it’s all part of the show, it’s not. He actually is furious and has stormed off.”
Two years later Mark once again stormed off set, this time after a team secured a jackpot of £21,000. Bradley, 65, apologised on behalf of the Chaser and said it isn’t how he should handle defeat.
Bradley said: "I apologise to all the kids watching. That’s not how you should take defeat. You should take it magnanimously and humbly."
Mark subsequently apologised for the outburst in a social media post. Writing on X, then Twitter, he said: “Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight. My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase."
Mark was one of the original Chasers on the show alongside Shaun. According to fansite One Question Shootout he has won 370 of the 492 episodes he has appeared in.
