American in the UK visits Sainsbury's for food shop and spots unexpected item

It can be exciting visiting another country and spotting what the local supermarkets have on offer. As Brits, it's common to travel to the iconic stores in the US to see all the differences across the pond.

Now when our friends come to visit us here in the UK, there's a variety of chains to check out – from Tesco to Asda. Recently, one American revealed their experience at Sainsbury's where they came across an unexpected product during a food shop. In the post, the person said: "Hi all. Today in Sainsbury's, I found something I did not expect... masa tortillas!"

For those who love Mexican cuisine will have tried masa tortillas before when making tacos. They're a staple in the South American country and are generally gluten-free.

Masa tortillas are loved for their authentic, hearty corn flavour and "meaty" texture that holds up better than commercial tortillas, even with wet fillings.

So you can see why the American was excited to see these in the UK.

In the post, the person added: "I did not have to say anything, my partner knew we would be buying them.

"We pivoted our dinner plans to make tacos and they were actually pretty good.

"They smelled right and tasted (mostly) right. Now to find out if they make them any bigger. I recommend. Product name: Cantina del Sabor, Cali Street."

Since the Reddit post was shared, it garnered dozens of likes and comments. One American said: "Oooh thanks for the advice! Gonna check that out now."

Another added: "This is awesome! Thank you for telling me about it." A third admitted: "Yay! I've also randomly found corn tortillas at TX Maxx before!"

Meanwhile someone else pointed out: "I've seen them in Aldi before."

And one admitted: "As a Mexican that relocated from California corn tortillas were what I was missing the most. When I found these I almost cried. Lol they taste close enough to OG street tacos.

"I would order from Chingona Tortilleria but could never get through them fast enough to make it work + the cost of ordering and shipping."

You can pick up a 15 taco pack of the tortillas for £1.75 from Sainsbury's. For the best results, heat in a little oil for 20 seconds on each side.
