The Govandi police have booked a 27-year-old man, Virendra Vinod Bodre, for allegedly assaulting a doctor on duty in the casualty department of Shatabdi Hospital, Govandi. The incident occurred on August 9 following a dispute over the admission of his ailing mother into the hospital.

According to the complaint filed by Dr. Sandip Deoram Kedar,44, a medical officer at Shatabdi Hospital since August 1, 2008, the altercation occurred on the evening of August 9. At around 6 PM, the accused, Virendra, had brought his mother, Nirmala Bodre, to the hospital’s emergency (casualty) department, claiming she had been suffering from fever, chills, and body aches for two days.

Dispute Over Hospitalization

Dr. Kedar examined her and informed her and her son that immediate hospitalization was not necessary. He declined their request for admission, stating that the patient's condition was stable and could be managed without admission. Dissatisfied with the decision, Virendra allegedly began verbally abusing the doctor, insisting that his mother be admitted.

He allegedly used abusive language, issued threats, and became physically aggressive. Despite intervention from BMC security guard Ganesh Sangle and staff nurse Bhagyashree Patil, Virendra refused to calm down.
