A lawyer from Mira Road was duped of Rs 20 lakh by a fake saint who promised to double the money through a black magic ritual. The shocking incident took place at a flat in CBD Belapur and has led to a police investigation involving two suspects.
The primary accused, identified as 40-year-old Prem Singh, claimed he could use supernatural powers to double cash. He fled with the money during a staged ritual, while the victim and his family were locked inside a room, chanting mantras. Police have also booked 65-year-old Anant Narhari, the flat owner, as a co-accused in the case.
The victim, 42-year-old Dharamveer Tripathi, is a lawyer who met another saint named Pushpendra Tiwari during a religious trip to Kashi last year. Tiwari earned Tripathi’s trust by making favorable predictions and later introduced him to Prem Singh. The two continued communicating over WhatsApp, eventually leading to the meeting in Navi Mumbai.
On July 22, Tripathi, along with his wife and son, arrived at Narhari’s flat in Gomti Co-op Housing Society, Sector 8B, carrying Rs 20 lakh in cash. Singh set up a fake ritual by placing the cash bag before images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. He asked everyone to stay inside the bedroom and chant mantras, promising the money would be doubled within 15 minutes.
