Day 3 of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston witnessed a heated moment as England captain Ben Stokes furiously protested against the late DRS call made by Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal following an LBW decision.
The drama unfolded when Josh Tongue delivered a sharp in-swinger that beat Jaiswal’s flick and hit him on the pads. The on-field umpire raised his finger, and Jaiswal, after a long chat with KL Rahul, opted for a review. However, the decision to go upstairs came just after the 15-second timer on the screen had expired, sparking immediate protest from Stokes.

Stokes quickly pointed out the delay to the on-field umpires, gesturing that the review signal came too late. The Edgbaston crowd joined in with loud boos as the umpires conferred on the issue. Despite the delay, the umpires allowed the review to proceed, which only fueled England’s frustration.
The UltraEdge showed no bat involved, and ball tracking showed three reds, confirming that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. Jaiswal was declared out for 28 runs off 22 balls, and India’s total stood at 51/1, with a lead of 231 runs.
While the dismissal stood, the decision to allow the review despite the timer expiring became a flashpoint. The incident has sparked renewed debate around the enforcement of DRS rules and review timing, with fans and players alike questioning the consistency of the decision-making on the field.
