Govinda would be a 'bhikari' without me. Sunita Ahuja shares a prediction about the actor

Sunita Ahuja was just 15 when she first met and fell in love with Govinda, the charismatic star who would one day become the face of Indian comedy and dance in the '90s. Her love for him was instant and intense, enough to make her defy her own family. In a candid interview, Sunita revealed that her father had strong reservations about her marrying someone from the film industry.

He had even arranged a match for her in Holland, hoping she’d choose a quieter, more stable life with a businessman. But Sunita’s heart was set on Govinda. “Mera pyaar sacha tha,” she confessed. Her love was pure, and her conviction unwavering. So much so that she tied the knot without her father’s blessings — a decision that would shape the course of her life.

The Shadow of Separation Rumors

In recent times, whispers of trouble in Govinda and Sunita’s marriage have been circulating persistently. While Sunita had previously dismissed these rumors, a recent interaction gave fans a glimpse of emotional turbulence. With a determined tone and a bittersweet laugh, she said, “I won’t let anyone take my husband away from me.” This single line, though laced with humor, hinted at deeper cracks that time and circumstance may have etched into their bond.

Held Together by a Mother’s Wish

Sunita spoke fondly of Govinda’s late mother, giving her full credit for their marriage. It was her insistence and emotional persuasion that cemented the union. “She told him, ‘Chichi, if you leave Sunita, tu bhikhari ban jayega,’” Sunita recalled with a sense of nostalgia and gratitude. Even today, despite any personal issues, she chooses to stay in Govinda’s family home, a decision deeply influenced by the respect she holds for her mother-in-law’s wishes.

Trials of a 40-Year Journey

In another revealing moment, Sunita opened up about the challenges she has faced during her four-decade-long marriage. In an earlier interaction, she cautioned women about blind faith in their partners. “Don’t ever say that your partner is innocent,” she warned. She alluded to facing betrayal herself and spoke of the agony that comes when a third person enters a marriage. “Even if you leave him, that woman won’t,” she said, hinting at a painful chapter from her own past. “When it happened, I endured it,” she added quietly, underscoring her resilience.

Clashing Perspectives on Career Choices

Their personal differences have also spilled into their professional life. Sunita once managed Govinda’s career and had suggested that he explore opportunities in the OTT space. As a fan of digital content herself, she saw the shift in the entertainment industry early on. But Govinda, ever the big-screen loyalist, refused. Frustrated by his resistance to adapt, she eventually stepped back. “38 years tereko jhel liya,” she said half-jokingly, “tu sunta toh hai nahi.” Her words reflected a mix of frustration, affection, and the fatigue of long-standing compromise.

A Star’s Fading Screen Presence

Govinda, once the king of the silver screen, was last seen in 2019's Rangeela Raja, where he played a double role. The film, however, failed to impress at the box office, earning a mere Rs 19 lakh — a stark contrast to his heyday. While his star power may have dimmed, Sunita’s unwavering loyalty and emotional candor prove that their story is far from over, even if it’s now written in shades of both love and longing.
