During the military conflict between India and Pakistan, flight operations at many airports in the country were suspended and remained suspended till May 13. But now Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu held a meeting with representatives of airline companies to discuss the disruption in flights due to airport closures, reduction in taxes on aviation fuel, and other issues. Naidu said in a post on 'X', "Chaired a review meeting with senior officials of the ministry and all airlines. During this, airlines have been asked to resume their regular flight schedule at all 32 airports from May 15.
Naidu said, "All airlines have responded positively to the suggestion to resume flights at these airports." Last week, the government issued a 'Notice to Airmen' (NOTAM) to stop the operation of civilian flights at 32 airports in the country, given the tension created on the border with Pakistan. However, the situation has started becoming normal after the two countries agreed to stop military action.
Airline companies will express gratitude to the soldiers.
Sources also said that some airlines mentioned the loss in VGF during the closure of airports. VGF is given to airlines operating flights under the regional air connectivity scheme 'UDAN'. Apart from this, airlines have also demanded tax relief from the government on aviation fuel (ATF). Security measures were also increased at airports during the closure of airports. Airlines cancelled more than 300 flights per day due to the closure of airports. According to sources, some airlines told the minister and officials present in the meeting that a large number of tickets have been cancelled ahead of the peak air travel season in the scorching summer, which reflects weakness in travel sentiment.
